Key Performance Outputs:
- Assist with monitoring compliance to environmental legislation.
- Assist with Environmental Impact Assessment process and monitor compliance to Record of Authorisations.
- Assist with maintaining ISO 14001 Certification.
- Collate key environmental performance indicators.
- Initiate continuous improvement to processes and use of new products to improve environmental efficiency.
- Promote environmental awareness.
- Assist with implementation of sustainable practices.
- Co-ordinate the review of policies and procedures and monitor compliance.

Technical Skills and Experience:
- A relevant three year environmental tertiary qualification or a similar three year qualification.
- Preferably 1 year relevant working experience..
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Competencies:
- The ideal candidate must portray exceptional comfort around high level management and must be able to comfortably handle risk and issues of ambiguity.
- The ability to share information is critical in this role.
- Proficiency in English and good written and verbal communication skills are required as well as report writing and presentation skills.
- This position requires excellent planning and organizing skills and the ideal candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and relating and networking abilities are also essential.

Definitions:

Internship:

There are basically two types of internships:

  • The Undergraduate Internship: Usually with bigger organisations that pick undergraduates to attend the internship. Learnerships:

A learnership is an occupational qualification and it consists of theory and work-based experience and practical skills, with formal assessment and a qualification. At the end of the learnership the candidate may be offered permanent employment.

In-service training:

In-service training is to gain practical work experience during studies. It usually takes place after a few years of theory has been successfully completed. It is essential work experience that is part of the qualification and the in-service training is necessary to achieve the qualification. It could be paid or unpaid.
