Clicks has established a Pharmacy Bursary Scheme to offer financial assistance for qualifying applicants to undertake or continue full-time study in the field of Pharmacy at any of the Pharmacy Schools in South Africa. This forms part of our commitment to the Pharmacy profession and our investment in the development of future talent.

The Clicks Pharmacy Bursary includes:
- The Clicks Pharmacy Bursary Scheme offers bursaries of R30 000.00 each to deserving Pharmacy Students from first to fourth year of studying.
- Bursaries that are allocated to students will, pending the successful completion of their studies each year, be extended to their next year of study.

Bursary Criteria:
- Any student enrolled to study BPharm at a recognised university

General Criteria:
- Applicants must be SA citizens.
- Applicants’ academic track records will be considered.
- Applicants must be interested in pursuing a career in Retail Pharmacy
- Individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who meet the minimum requirements would be given preference.

Bursary Conditions:
- Clicks Bursars would be bound contractually to, after graduation, do their Pharmacist Internship and, after completing their Community Service, complete a year of service for each year of receiving the Bursary at Clicks.
- Bursary funds will be paid directly to the University to administer in cooperation with selected students.
- Clicks reserve the right to withdraw the offer of a Clicks bursary if the candidate performs substantially weaker academically than the academic performance presented during the application process.
- Clicks Bursars are required to complete the compulsory practical time (externship) in a Clicks dispensary from their second to fourth year of study.

Definitions:

Internship:

There are basically two types of internships:

  • The Undergraduate Internship: Usually with bigger organisations that pick undergraduates to attend the internship. It often takes places during the holidays and the average durations is a few weeks. In most cases the intern will receive some sort of stipend or salary and this type of internship may lead to a job offer to the intern once he / she is finished with their studies.
  • The Graduate Internship: This type of internship could be paid or unpaid and it is to gain practical work experience after the qualification has been completed and in a job related to the qualification. It could be from a few weeks or even one or two years long. This type of internship could also lead to permanent employment.

Learnerships:

A learnership is an occupational qualification and it consists of theory and work-based experience and practical skills, with formal assessment and a qualification. At the end of the learnership the candidate may be offered permanent employment.

In-service training:

In-service training is to gain practical work experience during studies. It usually takes place after a few years of theory has been successfully completed. It is essential work experience that is part of the qualification and the in-service training is necessary to achieve the qualification. It could be paid or unpaid.
