Lonmin is the world's third largest platinum producer with the majority of its operations located at Marikana, situated roughly halfway between Brits and Rustenburg in the North West. Lonmin has the following opportunity for talented, results-driven self-starter: Rigger.
This position, critical for the safe operation and maintenance at a concentrator, will see you provide specific rigging services and support to safely move specified heavy equipment as well as provide rope maintenance for winders, chairlifts and other rope and pulley-operated equipment in the assigned operational area.
You will need:
- A Grade 12 or equivalent NQF 4 qualification with English literacy or N2 in Engineering Studies
- Completed formal learnership programme prior to obtaining a Rigger Trade Certificate as recognised by the MQA
- At least 3 years' experience as a Rigger Artisan / Aide / Apprentice within a mining or plant environment
- Working knowledge of applicable legislative, safety, health and environmental requirements and standards
- Numeracy skills and literacy
- Working knowledge of and practical experience in engineering technologies and practices
- No major sensory restrictions
- Good motor skills (hand, eye and foot coordination)
- An analytical approach, with attention to detail.
- A valid Mobile / Overhead Crane and Forklift driving certificate would be an advantage, as would computer literacy (MS Office suite of packages).

Learnerships:
A learnership is an occupational qualification and it consists of theory and work-based experience and practical skills, with formal assessment and a qualification. At the end of the learnership the candidate may be offered permanent employment.
In-service training:
In-service training is to gain practical work experience during studies. It usually takes place after a few years of theory has been successfully completed. It is essential work experience that is part of the qualification and the in-service training is necessary to achieve the qualification. It could be paid or unpaid.

- The Graduate Internship: This type of internship could be paid or unpaid and it is to gain practical work experience after the qualification has been completed and in a job related to the qualification. It could be from a few weeks or even one or two years long. This type of internship could also lead to permanent employment.
