Discovery is offering the opportunity of a lifetime for 9 of South Africa's brightest young people to join our short term insurance learnership. The focus of this Learnership will be on short term insurance in a servicing (call centre), claims (call centre), product and pricing, finance or systems environment.

The Learnership programme consists of structured learning components combined with practical/workplace experience which totals to 1 200 learning hours. The qualification is Unit Standard Based and the programme is registered with the Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority (InSeta) and will be accredited by the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA).

Qualifications & Experience:
- Be South African Citizens;
- Hold a valid & recognised Matric with Maths, English & 2nd language (Minimum D Symbol in Maths or Maths Lit (60% and above) and 2nd language and Symbol D in English)
- Not be engaged in post Matric studies or formal employment;
- Not have completed any previous Learnership.
- Be between the ages of 18 and 30 years;
- Have effective communication skills in the English language
- Be interested in IT or client services environment;
- Possess basic computer skills;
- Express a keen interest in administration, call centre and customer service

Please note: The cost of attending interviews and any relocation cost is for the account of the candidate. Discovery will not reimburse any costs incurred.

Definitions:

Internship:

There are basically two types of internships:

  • The Undergraduate Internship: Usually with bigger organisations that pick undergraduates to attend the internship. It often takes places during the holidays and the average durations is a few weeks. In most cases the intern will receive some sort of stipend or salary and this type of internship may lead to a job offer to the intern once he / she is finished with their studies.
  • The Graduate Internship: This type of internship could be paid or unpaid and it is to gain practical work experience after the qualification has been completed and in a job related to the qualification. It could be from a few weeks or even one or two years long. This type of internship could also lead to permanent employment.

Learnerships:

A learnership is an occupational qualification and it consists of theory and work-based experience and practical skills, with formal assessment and a qualification. At the end of the learnership the candidate may be offered permanent employment.

In-service training:

In-service training is to gain practical work experience during studies. It usually takes place after a few years of theory has been successfully completed. It is essential work experience that is part of the qualification and the in-service training is necessary to achieve the qualification. It could be paid or unpaid.
